2 Ingredient Italian Deliciousness- Prosciutto e Melone

This is the most simple and easy meal ever. My Husband just loves this dish, he could literally eat this about 2-3 times a week during the summer. I have to say it’s an all Italian favorite.

You can find this during the summer pretty much anywhere you go during the summer, it’s such a simple and refreshing dish.
Melon is fantastic, it’s an excellent source of Vitamin A, Potassium, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Vitamin C and minerals like manganese. It is also rich in antioxidant flavonoids such as beta-carotene. And 100 grams of Melon has only about 34 calories. During the summer it’s a great way to re-hydrate as it’s full of water and allows you to feel light and full all at the same time.

The combination of the Prosciutto and Melon provides that perfect subtlety between the sweet and salty, the Prosciutto helps to calm down the sweetness of the melon while all the time creating a perfect balance of a perfect meal for anytime of the day! If you haven’t tried this dish ever, well now would be a great time. Only two ingredients and about 2 minutes to put together.

Ingredients:

1 Melon (2 melons if small like in pictures)

1/4 lb. of Prosciutto di Parma

Slice your Melon in half, remove the seeds and slice each half into 4; peel and lay 4 pieces on each plate. Get your prosciutto and lay on top and serve. Enjoy!

  1. Somehow I have a bit of difficulty imagining an Italian justify this dish because its an excellent source of vits and mins. They just eat it because its summer – and that’s what EVERYONE in Italy eats in the summer. :-)

    • Well, Thanks for pointing that out. My intent is to inform not justify.
It is something that everyone eats here in the summer, but there is more to it than just something yummy it’s actually good for you!

      Ciao

      • I was just being a cheeky tease. It is actually rather comforting to know that this Italian comfort food has some redeeming characteristics! I live in Florence, Italy and I know that as soon as the warm temps hit everyone keeps looking out for melons in the store.

      • Alright then, Here in Romagna, Italy where I live on the beach it’s the same thing. All the beaches are already serving Prosciutto e Melone.

  2. Oooo! I had these at my Bridal shower and they were such a hit! I was skeptical at first but it was so delicious! (Now that we’re vegetarians this is one of the things I miss!) What kind of melon did you use?

  3. This is one of my favorite Summer dishes. In fact, Summer really hasn’t started until I have my first serving of prosciutto e melone. Like you said, it’s the salty & the sweet. It’ll get me every time.

  4. One of my favorite Italian summer dishes! I’m really not a big fan of sweet/salty combos, but for some reason this dish is heaven on a plate for me! Che buono!

    • I’m not a big fan at all of sweet and salty, I like my salty and then my sweet or sometimes just my salty. However like you mentioned this dish is different especially if you use Prosciutto San Daniele which is less salty it’s even better.

      Thanks for stopping by mythineats

    • Yes, I don’t think that u are ruining it if you accompany it by a piadina. I love piadina it’s typical from Romagna which is my hometown so I say go for it. Buon appetito
